Paper Piecing

Hello all,

How are you today?  I hope you are doing well and getting some time in for yourself to create something.  When I saw a card Debby Yates (designer for  Simon Says Stamp Wednesday Challenge) made, I just HAD to order the cat stamps and flower die she used and make a card that is similar.  I wish I could show you a video or send you to Debby’s site to watch a video, I don’t think there is one.  I’ll put the link to her card below, though, so you can see her beautiful creation.  Debby inspires me every week with the wonderful cards she creates with stamping and paper piecing.

I made this card two times.  I wasn’t satisfied with my first card and thought I could do better, so I did it again.  I will post the first card I made at the bottom of the page.  Here’s the second card and the one I like best.  I wish I had not outlined the striped background with gray.

Hello Cats

The Cats

  • Simon Says Stamp Christmas Cats Stamp Set
  • MISTI Stamping Tool
  • VersaFine Onyx Black Ink Pad
  • Lawn Fawn Perfectly Plaid 6 x 6 inch Paper Pad
  • Lawn Fawn Polka in the Meadow 6 x 6 inch Paper Pad
  • EK Success CUTTER BEE Scissors – Cut out the cats close to the edges.
  • Memento Tuxedo Black Dual Marker – Go over the lines on the cats and around the edges.
  • Glaze Black Jelly Roll – Go over the eyes.
  • Zig Clean Color Real Brush Marker, Pink – Color inside the ears and noses.
  • Crafter’s Companion CLEAR OVERLAY Spectrum Noir Sparkle Pen – Apply to the cats’ eyes and the bellies.  Lay aside to dry.

The Sun

  • Lawn Fawn Polka in the Meadow 6 x 6 inch Paper Pad
  • 3 1/2 inch Circle from the Creative Memories Circle Custom Cutting System
  • Creative Memories Self-Healing Custom Cutting System Mat
  • Crafter’s Companion CLEAR OVERLAY Spectrum Noir Sparkle Pens – Apply a very light coat.  Lay aside to dry.

The Flowers and Lawn

  • Lawn Fawn Flower Border Die
  • a green sheet from Lawn Fawn Polka in the Meadow 6 x 6 inch Paper Pad – When die cutting, leave room at the bottom of the flowers for a hill and also to cut the scalloped frame.
  • Use the die again on the same paper and on the Perfectly Plaid paper to get miscellaneous flower head patterns.
  •  EK Success CUTTER BEE Scissors – Cut loose the flowers from the rest of the die cuts.
  • White Fun Foam – When die cutting, leave room at the bottom of the flowers for a hill and also to cut the scalloped frame.
  • Liquitex Matte Gel Medium – Glue the green flower border die cut to the white fun foam die cut.  Lay a large acrylic block on top of this to allow it to adhere well.
  • Cuttlebug Die-Cut & Emboss Machine Provo Craft
  • Use the second to largest die in the Lawn Fawn SCALLOPED RECTANGLE STACKABLES Lawn Cuts Dies.  Being careful to leave the amount of hill you want to have under the row of flowers, die cut the bottom of the green flower border that is glued to the white fun foam flower border.
  • Glue the miscellaneous flower heads to the tops of the matching flowers on the Flower Border die cut.  Again, press this down by laying a large acrylic block over the flowers until they dry.
  • Zig Clean Color Real Brush Marker, Gray Tint – Go around the edges of the flower heads.
  • Uni-Ball Pen Signo Gel WHITE – Go over dots and lines on the flower heads.
  • Crafter’s Companion CLEAR OVERLAY Spectrum Noir Sparkle Pens – Apply a very light coat.  Lay aside to dry.
  • Nuvo Crystal Drops, White – Put a dot of this in the center of the flowers that have five petals.  Lay aside to dry.

The Background

  • a diagonal striped blue sheet from Lawn Fawn Polka in the Meadow 6 x 6 inch Paper Pad
  • Cuttlebug Die-Cut & Emboss Machine Provo Craft
  • Use the second to largest die in the Lawn Fawn SCALLOPED RECTANGLE STACKABLES Lawn Cuts Dies
  • Zig Clean Color Real Brush Marker, Gray Tint – Go around the edge of the scallop.  HINT:  I suggest that you don’t do this, unless you really like it.
  • a pink sheet from Lawn Fawn Polka in the Meadow 6 x 6 inch Paper Pad
  • Use the largest die in the SCALLOPED RECTANGLE Die Set

The Card Base

  • 110# Neenah Solar White Cardstock cut to 8 1/2  x 5 1/2 inches
  • Martha Stewart Scoring Board – Make a crease to fold in half, creating a top-folding card that is 5 1/2 x 4 1/4 inches.

The Sentiment

  • Cuttlebug
  • 110# Neenah Solar White Cardstock
  • Wplus9 Bountiful Blooms Dies – Cut only the word Hello.
  • White Fun FoamCut the word a second time.
  • Liquitex Matte Gel Medium  – Glue the paper word to the foam word.
  • Lay an acrylic block over the word until it dries.

Putting It All Together

  • Using Scrapbook Adhesives E-Z Runner Tape adhere the pink background to the card base.
  • Adhere the blue background to the pink background.
  • Adhere the sun to the upper right side.
  • Being careful to put the cats in the correct position, adhere the cats in front of the sun.
  • Adhere the flower border in the proper position, matching the scalloped edge to the blue background.  Behind the flowers of the die cut, use the liquid glue to adhere.
  • Using the liquid glue, adhere the sentiment to the upper left side of the card.

That’s it for another card.  There was a lot to do on this card, but you could make it more simple by eliminating some steps.  I am an “over do it” person.  Wish I wasn’t, and I’m trying to improve in this area.   If you like this card, please take a second to find the LIKE BUTTON at the bottom of the page and click on it.  A COMMENT would be lovely, as well.  The place to make a comment is at the top of the page under the title.

 Have a good afternoon,

Tricia Ann

Wow, this is too cute and love the flower border design and your choice of papers and colors. Thank you for blessing us with your creation at Word Art Wednesday. Leaving you with the Word of God in 1 Peter 1:13 which tells us, “Therefore, with minds that are alert and fully sober, set your hope on the grace to be brought to you when Jesus Christ is revealed at his coming.” Blessings always.
