August Bullet Journal Layout

Hello,

In my last post, I mentioned that Kassidy is currently expressing her creativity by keeping a planner.  She still uses an Erin Condren planner with stickers from an Etsy shop online or MAMBI sticker books purchased at Michael’s Craft Store.  However, that planner is used now for memory keeping and reflection.  Currently, Kassidy’s interest is in writing down her plans in a bullet journal.  The bullet journal Kassidy purchased is a Recollections Bullet Journal that she purchased at Michael’s for $5.  This booklet has blank pages with a light gray grid dots

When Kassidy spent the day with me the other day, it was interesting to see how she took out her tools and set up the next section in her bullet journal.  On the right hand page, following the July journaling pages, she drew a large ice cream cone with a pencil and colored it in with Tombow Markers.  Sorry, I forgot to photograph this page.  She had decided on the theme, ICE CREAM, for August.  Turning the page, Kassidy used a ruler to draw an August calendar.  She then drew free-handed the letters, AUGUST, as well as filling in the days of the week, numerals and a monthly goals box.  Newton Nooks Stamps, Summer Scoops, were used to stamp images of ice cream on her pages with a MISTI Stamping Tool and Versafine Black Ink.  Kass even knew from past lessons with me how to use masking tape to cover the “A” in August so the ice cream parfait looks like it is behind the letter.

I especially like it that Kassidy shadowed the days of the week boxes with color.  All of Kassidy’s work was done by her without direction from me.  I was so proud of her and proud of myself, too, that I had taught her well.

The paper in this journal is not as thick as the paper in my Happy Planner, so the drawings of the pages before and after show through in places.  On the next page, Kassidy drew a scoop of ice cream in a cup.  She gave each “mood” a color.  Each day, she intends to draw a sprinkle on the ice cream scoop to indicate the mood she was having.

On the right hand side, Kass drew Habit Trackers that contain 31 days each to cover the whole month of August.  The small pictures above the Habit Trackers indicate what she is following.  What I see here is Drinking Enough Water, Eating Correctly, her Monthly Cycle, Flossing her Teeth, Reading, Writing, Daily Devotions.

The next spread shows something that Kassidy wants to do in August.  She likes to keep track of her efforts.  If I was keeping a bullet journal, I probably wouldn’t include this layout.  That’s one point up for the bullet journal – you can keep record of whatever you want, since the pages are blank.

This next layout is not complete.  It shows that Kassidy has set up her sections to write in her TO DO’s for each day.  Notice that there are eight rectangles.  She will write the heading, MONDAY, in the first rectangle, TUESDAY in the second one, WEDNESDAY in the third box and so on.  The eighth rectangle is to write in the heading, GOALS, she has set for the week.

After this, when she turns the page, Kassidy will set up her journal for the second week of August.  And so it goes.

Kassidy’s work makes me want to keep a bullet journal.  I honestly didn’t understand how bullet journaling works until I saw what Kassidy did.  My hesitation is that I know it takes a lot more work than using Etsy or MAMBI stickers in a planner that is already set up for months and days.  Maybe one of these days I’ll try it.  Maybe you will, too!  🙂

Thanks for looking,

Mimi Tricia

Here’s the order of the pages.  Keep in mind that I forgot to photograph the page before this that had a large ice cream on it.  That indicates the theme for the month of August.
