Simon Says Stamp Designer Spotlight, Make It Sparkle

Hello Everyone,

It’s Wednesday again and time for another Simon Says Stamp Wednesday Challenge.  It sure is cold where we are, and I know that many are you are experiencing the same, some worse than us for sure.  We live in the southeastern part of the U.S.A., so our winters are mild.  However, it is still cold to us.  We are so pleased that our granddaughter, Kassidy, age 14, is in the Designer Spotlight again this week for the Simon Says Stamp Wednesday Challenge.  Kassidy enjoys the challenge and tries to do her best. 

  

The theme for Simon Says Stamp Wednesday Challenge this week is Make It Sparkle.  This week’s featured company is a favorite, Hero Arts.

For this week’s challenge, Kassidy wanted to use the layering ice cream cone stamp set from Hero Arts.  After stamping with it, the image looks like a photograph instead of a stamped image.  She wanted to pair this set with Hero Art’s beautiful snowflake background stamp.

 

To begin, Kassidy stamped the layered ice cream cone and cut it out.  At first, she die cut the images, but she didn’t like the white border around the images, so she used scissors to fussy cut the borders away.  Die cutting the images first made the fussy cutting a little easier.  Then Kassidy chose a background cardstock for the front panel and stamped it with snowflakes.  The photo below was darkened so you can see the layered look on the ice cream and cone.  To make the snowman’s face, Kassidy used Zig markers and drew the face on the ice cream scoop freehanded.

ICE CREAM CONE

When Kassidy was deciding on ink colors for the cone, I got out my box of ice cream cones and handed one to her.  She looked at it, then took a bite out of it!  I asked, “Would you like some ice cream in that?  She answered, “Yes!”  It didn’t matter that I was presently fixing her breakfast.  She ate the ice cream treat, then she ate her breakfast.   🙂

BACKGROUND PANEL

Kassidy thought she would need to make a 6 x 5 inch card because of stacking three scoops of ice cream on top of the cone.  So she stamped a background panel that size.  When assembling the pieces, she realized that only an A2 card size was needed, so she cut the background panel down to 5.5 x 4.25 inches.

ADD-ONS

Kassidy wanted her ice cream cone to be held in a hand wearing a mitten.  She didn’t have a stamp or die, so she had to draw the mitten herself to fit around the ice cream cone.  To do this, she used a practice ice cream cone she made when deciding on her ink colors.  

On the scrap paper with the practice ice cream cone on it, Kassidy used a pencil to draw the mitten around the cone.  Then she used tracing paper to trace the mitten parts.  Kassidy selected her colored cardstock for the mitten and on top of this traced the mitten parts.  She pressed hard with her pencil to go over the lines of the mitten onto the colored cardstock.  This made an impression on the cardstock, which she could now pencil in.  The mitten parts were then cut out with scissors.  She did the same thing to make a jacket sleeve.

To give the mitten and sleeve some texture, Kassidy dabbed a small piece of terrycloth onto the ink pads and blotted it onto the mitten and sleeve.  In the end, the sleeve has a little texture showing, but the purple texture was absorbed into the cardstock.

Kassidy laid the ice cream cone parts on the front panel to see how much space was taken up, then she went about selecting a sentiment.  She decided on stamping one word and die cutting two more.

ASSEMBLING THE CARD

The ice cream cone parts were glued onto the front card panel along with the mitten and sleeve.  The die cut words were glued on under the SWEET sentiment.

The front panel was glued to a card base.

• 110# Neenah Solar White Cardstock, cut to 8.5 x 5.5 inches and folded in half to make a 5.5 x 4.25 inch card
• Scrapbook Adhesives E-Z RUNNER RED Permanent Tape

 

To have some sparkle, Kassidy added it to the ice cream cone.  She wanted the cone to be the focal point and didn’t want sparkle anywhere else.

• ZIG Wink of Stella GLITTER CLEAR Brush Tip Marker – for the cone
• Tim Holtz Distress Stickles Dry Glitter CLEAR ROCK CANDY – for the ice cream scoops – The glitter was adhered by thinly brushing on Ranger MULTI MEDIUM MATTE Glue and then sprinkling the glitter onto the glue.  After the excess glitter was shaken off, another small brush was used to get the glitter off the eyes, nose and mouth. 

This card can be used for many occasions.
