Patriotic Pocket Pal Letter

Hello Everyone,

Independence Day is quickly approaching, so I needed to gear my mind in a red, white and blue direction.  Also, my brother’s birthday is July 2nd, so I have to get a card going for him and get it in the mail.  I might use patriotic colors. 

This year I have been making my granddaughter, who is a brand new teenager, Pocket Pal Letters for every season, holiday or occasion, so she will have materials at home for her projects.  For this Pocket Pal, last night I invited Kassidy to make this one for herself. 

I think she did a nice job of selecting, cutting and adhering.  I put the back pockets together.  I put in patriotic embellishments I had in my stash, as well as a letter from me to her, reminding her of the privilege of being an American. 

When I started this year-long Pocket Pal Letter project, I gave Kassidy a 2″ notebook in which to store her Pocket Pal Letters.  I also gave her a 12″X12″ plastic box (from Michael’s) to hold the cardstock, tape and other items I give her for a certain theme that won’t fit into the pockets.  So each time I give her a Pocket Pal Letter, I place cardstock, envelopes, stamped pictures and whatever goes with the current theme in a plastic Ziplock bag.  She places the bag in her plastic box.  This helps her stay organized so she can reach for a specific theme and have her stuff together.  I also tell her to search in her other Pocket Pal Letters and Ziplocks to get something she may need for a project.

For this project Kassidy used Doodlebug Design, Inc. Patriotic Picnic 6X6 inch Paper Pad, cut to 3 1/2″ x 2 1/2″ to fit the pockets.  She also used Doodlebug Design, Inc. Fancy Frills (border) along the sides where the insert holes are.  I used Stars from my stash and then adhered them on both sides to tops of Paper Clips with a Hot Glue Gun.  The paper clips keep the items in the top pockets from sliding out, which they will do when the Pocket Pal is shuffled around.

In the back pockets I placed things from my stash that went with a patriotic theme.  I stamped and die cut items since Kassidy doesn’t have much equipment at home to do her projects. 

The 4th of July is less than two weeks away, so if you’re going to do red, white and blue projects, here’s a reminder to give it some thought and search for the materials you need for your project(s).
